As human beings, we communicate verbally and non-verbally. Research has shown that up to 90% of communication is non-verbal. Research has also shown that our bodies hold on to memories from childhood and even from the womb. Often in trauma, we may not have the words to express our feelings or experience. By engaging the body in communication, the therapist and client get a much broader understanding and feeling about what is really going on and the non-verbal can be made verbal by the client.
This type of Body Psychotherapy is not hands-on. There is a trusting collaboration between therapist and client and it can also be great fun! It is an excellent way to discover and uncover ideas and thoughts, particularly about relationships, past and present.
